About My Taxes

My Taxes is a free federal and state income tax bracket calculator. Enter your filing status, taxable income, tax year, and state to see which tax brackets apply to you, how much tax you would owe in each bracket, and what your effective tax rate looks like.

Unlike sites that only show the current-year tax table, My Taxes lets you compare federal income tax across multiple years and estimate state income tax for all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. That makes it easier to answer questions like “What is my tax bracket?”, “How much federal tax would I have paid last year?”, and “Does my state have an income tax?”

What you can do on this site

  • View federal income tax brackets by year and filing status
  • Estimate federal tax owed at each bracket and your overall effective tax rate
  • Look up state income tax brackets (or confirm that a state has no wage income tax)
  • Compare what you would have paid across years with the timeline chart

How to use the tax calculator

Getting started takes about a minute on the home page:

  1. Choose a tax year (for example, 2024 or 2025).
  2. Enter your taxable income. On Form 1040, this is often shown near the taxable income line (line numbers change by year). If you do not have a return handy, use a reasonable estimate.
  3. Select your state so we can show matching state income tax brackets when available.
  4. Choose your filing status: Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, or Head of Household.
  5. Click Next to open your tax results. From there you can adjust inputs, switch between federal and state views, and open the Timeline View to compare federal tax across years.

Who this is for

My Taxes is built for taxpayers, students, and anyone who wants a clearer picture of how U.S. progressive income tax brackets work. It is an educational estimate based on published federal and state tax rate tables—not a substitute for tax software, a CPA, or IRS guidance. Deductions, credits, local taxes, and special rules can change your actual bill.
